Terbium is one the 14 rare earth metals ( precious metals )
•Terbium is a silvery-grey metallic element.
•The name Terbium comes from the Swedish village, Ytterby near Stockholm. Three other elements are also named after the Ytterby they are erbium, Ytterbium and yttrium.
•Relatively stable in air.
•Terbium is one of lanthanides.
•Can be cut with a knife and is Malleable.
•There are 21 isotopes of terbium, atomic masses ranging from 145 to 165.
•The oxide form is chocolate or dark maroon.
•There are not many commercial uses for terbium.
•Terbium can act as a crystal stabilizer of elevated-temperature fuel cells.
•Isolation of the rare earth elements from each other has been difficult and expensive because their chemical properties are so similar.
